Overview and Insights for the Reinventing Organizations 10th Anniversary Party

By Lia Aurami and Eric Babinet, Partners of Enlivening Edge

Enlivening Edge is one of the “initiatives sparked by the book” so we have prepared for you this overview of how EE has supported, amplified, and enriched the RO movement in these last 9 years—and our insights about the future of the movement.

Relationship with the Teal movement

We were pleased and grateful that Frederic listed us as a resource for the movement, in his book. It has brought many folks to our door to benefit from our offerings.

Enlivening Edge has always had a Teal-movement focus. We have always had, as central to our Evolutionary Purpose, supporting the development of a global ecosystem of organizations operating in the next stage of human consciousness. Many articles have highlighted work happening across different countries, social sectors, and related movements

Our Evolutionary Purpose has always focused on connecting Teal-inspired people worldwide. The current statement is

Catalyzing relationships among innovators who are accelerating the evolution of organizations and social systems for human and environmental thriving.

Involvement with Teal Around the World

Involvement with the book and Frederic’s work

  • Published 18 articles about translations of RO book including a Special Collection of them all. Many were published as breaking news, and some were original articles we invited.
  • Republished a lot of Frederic’s work, including most of the Insights for the Journey videos (114 articles.)

Designed and hosted the Teal Organizations track at the Integral European Conferences in 2016 & 2018 (59 articles)

Ourselves operating as a Teal organization

  • Redefined inter-organizational relationships based on Teal principles
    • Formed our own extensive global network of inter-organizational friendships and collaborations
  • Always strove to embody Teal principles and practices in our organization
    • Adopted Holacracy in our 3rd month and continue to use it.
    • Redefined our evolutionary purpose a few times over the years.
    • In 2021 we became an LLC after quite a long time of researching what the best form of legal entity would be for us. We created a unique operating agreement, which integrated Holacracy into the legal operating agreement and which was significantly influenced by earlier pioneers such as Encode, HolacracyOne, and Round Sky Solutions

What is the future of Enlivening Edge?

  • We recently stopped publishing and republishing articles about views, organizations, tools/practices, however that rich resource of 1445 articles is still available in our Magazine Library
  • We will definitely continue publishing news and have created a new section on our site main page entirely focused on this. We invite you to contribute news updates to share on our site.
  • Our Community Hub is a full featured community platform that we’re proud of and that has a lot of potential. The growth has been slower than we had hoped and we invite anyone out there who would be interested in helping us with community building to get in touch
  • Evolutionary purpose will continue as increasing connectivity, as distinguished from teaching, producing, consulting, coaching, etc.
  • We are not as unique as we were 9 years ago as a nexus of movement news, so we too need to be reinventing ourselves as our social environment has changed.
  • Our future depends on the engagement rate across the board, of the world with our offerings.

What will happen to the Teal movement globally in the next 10 years?

  • People say “I don’t hear people talking about Teal as much as they used to” – they think it has come and gone. But it has become more common and normal, not a buzz. Also many people have dropped it because they don’t feel able to work in the whole Teal worldview, versus resonating with a few operational changes. Teal-shifting organizations are still early adopters but a steadily growing list of hundreds of companies. In our view there is no less of the original “spark on dry leaves” phenomenon triggered by the RO book publication..
  • Will there be slow steady growth, or will there be accelerated adoption at a certain point?
  • We’re waiting and watching with a supportive attitude for enough people with wide perspective on what’s happening in their country or movement to form a network.
  • We will see country-specific preferences for certain patterns of new ways of working — different translations of the book might contribute to this. For example, Japan.
  • Loneliness of innovators will not go away. Urge for community will continue and grow.
  • The RO book contributed to the world of business and organizations a new insight into the connection between organizational forms and human consciousness evolution. Whatever happens in the next ten years will be closely related to the evolution of human consciousness, individually and collectively.

Based on our experience over the years, what does the movement need?

  • More people who are coming from a We not only a Me perspective.
  • Get into the educational system. More college courses using the RO book and case studies
  • Grounding in human development. Business is not separate from human life.
  • A new book that summarizes the latest successes, crystalizes the theory, and concretizes the practices.
  • A need for community—this is why we are focusing on our Community Hub.
